What a year it has been at HairNerd! Hello, it's me, Commander Nerd. I was diagnosed with larynx cancer in January and had to undergo three months of chemotherapy and radiation. It may have been the hardest thing I've ever done. Fortunately, by the grace of God, I am still here today, along with the support of my family and community.
I have worked nonstop since I was nine, trying to buy my first pair of running shoes. Growing up with a father who was a minister and five mouths to feed meant there wasn't much money in the shoe fund. So, for the first time in my life, I was off work for twelve weeks. I know, I know your health comes first, but my kids like to eat and need running shoes. Guilt is terrible.
Having a core group of employees has made a huge difference. My employees and management team saved the company from defeat. If you ever needed a reason to invest your time, money, and talent in developing your future team leaders, it's not just good business; it's the most important thing you can do.
While I was out, HairNerd launched our new deodorant, which contains 85% less plastic than leading brands. It contains only two ingredients: no aluminum and zero fragrance, meaning zero parabens.
In October, I was selected to attend the VIP Start Program, where I met other talented business owners who share a common interest in serving our country, either in uniform or through procurement. I learned valuable skills, such as how to conduct queries and write proposals. The benefits of serving our country are limitless, and the experiences I gained during boot camp helped me navigate some of my most challenging days.
Now, buy some deodorant!
